On 24.05.19 the final version of the Companion Specification for Robotics was published. The Companion Spec defines the vertical communication between robots, which are generically described there as Motion Device Systems, and higher-level control and evaluation systems. The main applications are asset management, condition monitoring and predictive maintenance.
