Welding on-the-fly with PFO 2D and SCP with encoder input
With our programmable focusing optics and the Simple Coordination Program (SCP), we offer the perfect solution for on-the-fly processes - an ideal combination of speed and precision.
With the SCP and encoder interface for the PFO 20 and PFO 33, you can weld on the fly. Our product option enables encoder signals to be read in and the feed speed to be calculated precisely, even during acceleration.
This ensures precise welding geometries, higher productivity, and maximum reproducibility.

Optics focus the laser beam precisely on the workpiece – exactly at the point where the machining takes place.
Programmable focusing optics (PFO) use mirrors to flexibly direct the laser beam to any position in the machining field – without any mechanical movement of the workpiece or optics.
The Simple Coordination Program (SCP) with encoder is an option and can be retrofitted for the PFO 33 and PFO 20.
A clear advantage of the SCP with encoder is the “welding on the fly” function for compensating the feed rate of the optics or workpiece.
In addition, the encoder input ensures stable compensation in real time – even during acceleration phases – and simplifies integration.
The result: high process efficiency, better reproducibility of welding results, high welding position accuracy, and precisely defined welding geometries.
Rotating applications can also be processed during operation.
The video shows cylindrical battery cells at the beginning.
The control unit is connected to the rotary axis and the encoder. The incremental encoder signal is transmitted to the PFO. The light barrier triggers the real-time trigger signal, which is passed directly to the PFO.
The welding process can therefore continue during every phase of the workpiece movement.
This ensures higher productivity and increased output.
You benefit from time savings, cost reductions, and reproducible quality – even at higher speeds.
Yield increases while welding accuracy in terms of position and geometry is maintained.
The encoder can also be used for linear “welding on the fly”. In the video, for example, the PFO welds busbars on a linear machine axis.
