How to Set Up Your xFume™ Advanced Fume Extraction Unit

The 115 volt version of the xFume Advanced comes with the plug installed. Remove the contents of the dust tray, which include a filter wrench, air fitting adapter, and a three eighth inch industrial quick disconnect air fitting. Install the air fitting adapter and snug tight with an adjustable wrench or a three quarter inch wrench. Install the three eighth inch industrial quick disconnect. Be sure to use thread tape to ensure a proper seal. Snug tight with an adjustable or 11 sixteenths inch wrench. Ensure that the air supply is cleaned and dried. Connect your airline to the fitting. To maintain proper flow, the supply air pressure must be between 70 and 90 PSI. Setting up the torch and welding machine is the same as if you were welding without fume extraction. Do this now. Connect the provided extraction hose to the torch and the unit. Plug the unit into either a 230 volt or 115 volt socket, depending on the unit you purchased. When not using the auto start, stop function, set the switch to manual and use the power switch to power the unit on and off. To use the auto start, stop function, set the switch to auto and keep the power switch set to on as shown here. Connect the current sensing shunt around either the welding torch cable or ground cable. Use the air flow control dial on the front of the unit to adjust vacuum speed up or down as needed. The xFume Advanced features automatic filter cleaning. Cleaning pulses occur between welds when using the auto start, stop function. When not using the auto start, stop function, the unit will pulse at startup and if necessary during shutdown. The service light will activate when filter cleaning is necessary. If the service light is still on after the cleaning cycles, verify your compressed air supply is secure and replace filters if necessary. Before working with your fume extraction setup, we recommend you perform some test welds to ensure proper fume extraction is taking place.

For more welding knowledge visit our blog: https://blog.binzel-abicor.com Visit our Website: www.binzel-abicor.com ********** Before changing the filter on your X-Fume advanced unit, make sure to turn the power off, unplug the unit from the wall socket, and secure the locking caster wheels. Be sure to wear gloves and eye protection during this process. Dust masks are also recommended, as fine particles of hazardous material may become dislodged from the filter during removal and handling. Remove the dust tray from the unit base and dispose of the contents properly, then replace the dust tray. Unlock the two horizontal quick release latches that secure the motor box to the sound-dampened exhaust stack. Release the two latches that secure the filter box to the unit base. The filter box can then be placed on the floor or workbench with the intake ports facing upwards. Using the supplied filter wrench, loosen the filter and remove it from the housing. Bag and dispose of the filter properly. Thread the new filter on by hand until you feel resistance; then, snug the filter using the filter wrench to ensure a proper gasket seal. Repeat these steps for the second filter. Carefully center the filter box back onto the base and securely quick release latches. Be sure to test your fume extraction unit to ensure it is functioning properly before working with it full time.

Intro to Source Capture Robotic Fume Extraction

Not a lot of people have seen this before, most people think of fume extraction in a robotics setting as big air vents over your robotic cell or ambient air systems. So explain to people what source capture robotic fume extraction means. Absolutely. A basic definition would be that it's a method of capturing fume within a 360-degree zone within close proximity to the welding arc. Practically speaking, in the real world scenario, how does source capture robotic fume extraction work? So, it works by capturing the highly concentrated weld fumes surrounding the welding arc, and by focusing our collection efforts in this pre-dispersal zone, we can achieve the most cost effective method of capture possible. All right James, let's talk robot models. Are there any limitations to the kinds of robots that you can put source capture robotic fume extraction on? There really are no limitations in regards to robot make or model. You can order fume kits for both over arm and through arm robots. Tell me what happens to the welding fumes after it gets sucked up through this boot. What happens is the weld fumes are pulled through and exhaust hose by an extraction unit, and they're either filtered or sometimes they're even exhausted outside. Tell me how much suction you need here to capture that weld fume get it to the extractor system. Suction requirements are going to vary based on the well process parameters, but on a system like this, for solid wire at 300 amps, we'd recommend a minimum static vacuum pressure of 22 inch water column measured at the end of the hose provided in the kit. If I've never seen robotic fume extraction as a source capture solution before, explain to me what the installation on that looks like. It will vary by the design, but for a solution such as this, installation is actually a quick three step process, which is going to first include mounting the fume collector body and any provided support brackets onto the gun and the robot. And then second, you're going to secure your exhaust hose along the weld cable or a robot arm. And then third step's going to be collecting that exhaust hose to your fume extractor or a network drop. On a system like this, typical installation is going to take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes. With source capture robotic human extraction, do you have to reteach TCP and is any reprogramming necessary. We have seen that on large open weldments it's entirely possible that no touch-ups will be required, but on smaller weldments with many clamping fixtures, you may need to reteach some approach angles. Keep in mind that a rubber suction boot such as this is designed to bounce back to its original shape after pressing into objects.

Today we're going to talk about the xFume Advanced portable fume extraction system. The xFume Advanced is a portable fume extraction system that comes in two version, the 115 volts with two motors total of 1.6 kilowatt, or the 230 volts version with two motors totaling 3.2 kilowatts. This unit is a high-vacuum unit that can produce all the way up to 20,000 Pascal or 80 inches of water column. The unit is able to support two workstation depending on your need, and there are two different ports to connect your hoses. The unit comes standard with a five-meter or a 16-foot-long hose. Additionally, the unit comes with an auto-start-stop feature using a current sensor connected to the front panel of the machine and to the power cable of your MIG welding gun. This feature maximizes the life of your filter and the life of your motors. Of course, a manual setting is also available. The motors are coming with carbon brushes that you can replace at the end of their service life. The unit comes with two PTFE HISTEC filters that have a filtration efficiency of 99.9% all the way down to 0.1 micron. The unit comes with automatic filter cleaning that works with compressed air that you can directly connect to the machine. Automatic cleaning happens without interrupting the welder's ability to weld. A service light will activate to notify the welder that the process is going. There is a dust collector drawer at the bottom of the unit where the dust is accumulating for easy maintenance and cleaning. When it comes time to change the filter, and that varies upon your process, you will simply have to open up the unit, use the provided wrench to remove the filter and place new ones. The xFume Advanced is equipped with a maintenance meter telling you how many hours you've been working with the unit to make sure your preventative maintenance is done to keep the unit performing at its max. On the front panel, you have a variable speed knob that allows you to control the speed of the motor and the strength of the vacuum to apply to your process. That way you can always have the right vacuum for the right part of your process. Locking caster wheels attached to the bottom of the xFume Advanced make it easy to move in wherever you need it, while its small footprint makes it easy for storage when you don't. When combined with the xFume fume extraction MIG torch, the xFume Advanced unit is particularly effective for smoke extraction directly at the source.
